OUR STORY

Back in the late forties and early fifties some of the people who began Camp Mini-Yo-We came into Port Sydney and held Gospel meetings, many of these folks and other prayed that an assembly would be established in Port Sydney.

In the late eighties a group met for Bible Study at the home of Mel and Noreen Binnington to study the Word and discuss the possibility of beginning an assembly.

The group and others began to meet in Knox United Church in June 1990. We met there until the Fall of 1996 when we were able to rent the facilities at VK Greer Public School. The move to the school greatly assisted the growth of the assembly and we doubled in size.

While the Sunday meetings changed location, the Awana program continued to use the Community Hall until we moved into this facility after the March Break in 2002.

We are grateful for the privilege of using these facilities over the years. Our thanks goes out to those who made it possible. The custodians, the facilities coordinators, the congregation of Knox United and others have made our history a rich one.

In 1995 a committee was struck to find a piece of property. Mark Penman, Warren McLaren, George Budd and Doug Barnes were given the responsibility to find a suitable location. There were not a lot of vacant properties, we even contacted people who owned undeveloped lots to see if they were interested in selling to us. One deal fell through for less than $100. This property had a house on it which some wanted to buy and renovate to use as a quick fix till we could build. But the Lord had other plans and the house burned down and we were able to buy the property very inexpensively. We began the actual building project in the Spring of 2000 and moved in February of 2002.

Beginning in the summer of 2022 we earnestly sought what God had in store for Port Sydney Bible Chapel. We had concern over our stewardship of this building and property that God had permitted us to obtain without debt. Over the following six months we saw God bring an answer to our prayers and those of others in our community.

In late December we were contacted by a group interested in starting a Christian high school.  The Muskoka Association for Christian Education was asked if they were interested in purchasing the building and property outright. They responded enthusiastically, seeing it as the Lord’s answer to their prayers.  It was the desire of the Muskoka Association for Christian Education Port Sydney Bible Chapel continue to gather each Sunday.

Upon reflection it is evident that God had plans to see His building and property used to work once again with children for His glory.

We continue to meet each Sunday without the burden of taking care of the building and grounds as we will be tenants. Port Sydney Bible Chapel will be able to continue in our support of God’s work with the ministries we have supported and as the Lord leads us in the future. We feel blessed that God has made it possible for us to continue in our present location and be faithful stewards of God’s bounty.

The official change of ownership took place on July 7, 2023. We look forward to the changes that God has brought and look to Him for His continued guidance in the days to come.

Praise the Lord for His provision.

Jehovah Jireh - The Lord will provide.

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
